Description

So much went into this piece in so many ways and at so many levels... Koivu has been a very long time in coming. The sword he carries is a sword I made myself from repurposed materials and it is made the same way a real sword would be made as is his dagger. Koivu has many other items that can not even be seen in these photos- a calligraphy pen, a wooden-bound book, an ink well, a drinking cup, and a magical jewel- the Sampo?- concealed in the green pouch he carries in his hand in some photos... Koivu Taru- which is Finnish for Birch Tree and Legend- also became the counter-part to Cailitin the Unseelie Court Sorcerer. Koivu a character taken from a world I created that I call Esoterra. This character's race and culture I styled somewhat on the Kalevala and the ancient Finnish culture- from whose language I also created his name. he hails from a vast Birch forest that covers an area roughly the size of the continental United States... There is so much more to say about him, but so few people seem now to take the time to read anything put here on DA...but I know some of you will read this...and I thank you.

He made his debut at the Quinlan Art Doll and Teddy Bear show along with many other pieces never before seen in public.

Just to clarify, this is an original sculpt- OOAK- done BY ME from a blend of polymer clays. All costuming and the extra items were hand made or made/assembled from various found items that were re-purposed for his accoutrements. ALL of it was done by myself. And yes, I made that sword myself- as well as his dagger- from re-purposed kitchen cutlery that I ground down and filed and sanded by hand. They are both built the way a dagger and a sword would be constructed- full tang and cross guard and pummel.

I think both he and his background are wonderful. I'd love to know more about him and his world.
